The Infinite Player: Meeting user expectations with the right experience at the right time

The Overarching Project.
The Overarching Project.

There continues to be strong interest in NPR's Infinite Player experiment. We wrote in November that the purpose of the experiment is to create a one-button digital listening experience that reflects the simplicity of radio but takes advantage of digital innovations. There are three member station versions of the player -- KQEDMichigan Public Radio and KPLU -- which incorporate local content from those stations.

The Infinite Player is really more about meeting audience goals and expectations for finding and hearing public radio content than it is about technology. In this post on the Online News Association's Web site, Michael Yoch, NPR's product director, talks about the thinking behind the player.
