On March 24, 2014, NPR's acting President & CEO Paul Haaga announced a pledge to build a transformative local/national presence in the digital environment, and bring NPR and Member Station content to audiences however they choose to listen. Following an approval by the NPR Board of Directors, NPR became the first provider of news/talk content on iTunes Radio. The goal of this channel is to build it into a local/national listening experience, with a mix of national and local program offerings, along with membership and sponsorship opportunities that will grow visibility and support for Member Stations across the country.
Digital Services is working with stations to prepare assets to send to Apple for publishing into the iTunes Radio experience. For Digital Services to facilitate your set up, your station must meet the eligibility requirements for participating and provide three assets: HLS stream to the Apple specifications, station logo, and title copy for the stream being sent to Apple. Contact your Member Partnership colleague to learn more about the eligibly requirements. If you are ready to move forward with the set up or have questions regarding HLS streams, email firstname.lastname@example.org to submit your request.
